We live in a world where the majority of the people believe in the existence of a supernatural aspect of life. Christianity has been around for about two thousand years, yet believers are yet to have a unified definition and understanding of some elementary constituents of a balanced Christian life and lifestyle.
My aim here is to briefly highlight a few of the basics of Christianity that we should all easily agree to because they are very conspicuously stated in scriptures.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” 3John 1:2
The Christian life begins with the new birth. People commonly call it salvation, which is okay. However the word salvation is more encompassing. The problem is with the notion of Christians about what follows immediately after the new birth experience. After new birth, a person’s lifestyle should reflect what has taken place within the person; the person should begin to lead a godly lifestyle. As fundamental as this fact is, some Christian argue about it, unfortunately.
Another aspect of the Christian faith revealed in scriptures is healing and health. Act 10:38 tells us that Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. This is the reason his body was broken and bruised for our sakes: 1 Pet 2:24. As clear as these facts are, not every Christian group (or individuals) talk or act like they believe in it. To appropriate God’s blessings we must believe in his promises as documented in the bible. Otherwise we cannot appropriate such blessings.
That last aspect of the gospel message I like to talk about is prosperity and success. Some preachers and Christians are allergic to teachings on prosperity. Some act like the only authentic type of message a preacher should preach or teach on is holiness or right living. This is strange because a lot is said about prosperity in scriptures. Why would a good God not want his children to prosper or succeed in their life endeavors?
As Christian we are supposed to be in agreement regarding these basic teachings in scriptures. We should study the scriptures diligently so as to gain personal understanding. I hope you agree with me on these facts. I pray that the Lord will bless you with understanding in Jesus name. Amen.
