EFOSA OBASEKI

Efosa Obaseki is a professional computer scientist, author and public speaker. He is a member of the renowned Obaseki family in the ancient city of Benin, Nigeria. He is passionate about helping people develop spiritual and professional capacity so they can be successful in their life endeavors.

Efosa has authored a number of religious, inspirational and professional books and articles. He serves as the center manager at NIIT Benin Training Center. NIIT is an international information technology institute with presence in over forty countries, and headquarters in India

PROFESSIONAL BODIES MEMBERSHIP

Computer Professional (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN) is the apex regulatory body for information technology education and practice in Nigeria.

Efosa Obaseki is a chartered member of CPN, and he is a full member of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) where he is also a member of the executive committee (EXCO).

PROFESSIONAL WORK HISTORY

Computer Operator, 1990 to 1997

Efosa Obaseki’s career in the field of information technology began in 1990 when he worked in first bank of Nigeria Plc from 1990 to 1997. During this period he attended various courses in banking, accounts and computer operation. He gained hands on experience in addition to his formal education in computer science.

While working at the bank, he served as computer operator and was responsible for various tasks including user support services, daily startup processes, end of day processes, posting of batched transactions, reversal and correction of posing errors, monthly interest application, and other periodical processes. These processes were executed via an operator’s console.

The computer used by first bank at the time was ICL System 25, an industrial minicomputer system with 25 terminals. The branch of first bank where he worked was the first bank to be computerized in Benin City.

Computer Trainer, 1997 to 2005

Teaching others had become a passion for Efosa Obaseki. Over the years he had been teaching friends and neighbors on various subjects, particularly the calculative sciences. He is passionate about imparting knowledge.

For this reason, he resigned from the bank and took up a job as a computer instructor. He served as an instructor in a number of computer training institute including college of computer technology, university of Benin (UNIBEN) consultancy, talk computers technology, Nigerian institute of computer science and professional studies (NICPS), and mikon institute of information technology.

During this period, Efosa Obaseki trained students on various information technology courses (at various times) including BASIC programming, FORTRAN programming, DBase programming, Pascal programming, C++ programming, Assembly Language programming, Java programming, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.

Other courses include Computer fundamentals, DOS commands, Windows (versions 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, etc.), Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, CorelDraw, Instant Artist, Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), FrontPage, Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks.

Computer Institute Manager, 2014 to 2022

After serving as lecturer (instructor) at mikon institute for four years, Efosa Obaseki was made the assistant manager of the institute in 2004. While he was the assistant manager he continued be involved in performing the duties of an instructor in addition to his administrative functions.

In 2006 Efosa was promoted to the position of manager of the institute. He served in this position for five years and resigned in 2011 to explore other interests in the area of project management. During his tenor as manager of mikon, the institute experienced growth numerical and financial. He was handsomely rewarded by the top management for a job well done.

From 2011 to 2014 (first quarter), Efosa Obaseki decided to explore his interest in project management by joining the international project management professionals (IPMP) as a project management facilitator. He was responsible for training mostly fresh university graduates on project management principles based on Project Management Institute (PMI) guidelines.

Efosa Obaseki was engaged by NIIT Benin center as Centre Manager in 2014. NIIT is an international information technology training institute with its headquarters in India, and training centers in over forty countries spread across various continents.

At NIIT, Efosa acquired more experience in information technology and management of both human and material resources. He attended a number of courses on management, marketing, sales, data analytics and other aspects of information technology. Most of these courses were facilitated by expatriates from India.

MINISTRY WORK AND EVANGELICAL ACTIVITIES

Unit Membership and Leadership, 1998 to 2011

Efosa Obaseki has been passionately involved in Christian church work since the year 1998. In Heritage Assembly, he was an active member of the men’s ministry. In 2007 he was made the leader of the Health, Safety and Environment unit of the church. He served in the said capacity until 2011. During the period Obaseki spent in Heritage Assembly, he experienced spiritual development and contributed his quota to the work of the ministry until he got inspired to move on for other (evangelical) assignment.

Evangelical Ministry, 2012 to 2015

In 2012 Efosa Obaseki joined Beautiful Feet International (BFI), an evangelical ministry with the mission of winning souls and helping to revive local churches. BFI holds crusades in rural and sub-rural areas and assists in planting churches when the need arises. The ministry also conducts seminars on soul winning and other Christian and gospel related topics. During the period Obaseki served at BFI, he worked closely with the president of the organization, supporting in a number of ways including planning, organizing, preaching, and seminar lecture delivery.

Church Management and Leadership, 2015 till Date

In 2015, Efosa Obaseki joined the Living Faith Church (LFC), Uwasota Branch, Benin City. Soon after that, he became a member of the Evangelism Unit of the church. The unit was responsible for weekly evangelism to win souls and invite people to church services. By 2017 he joined the technical unit of the church, where he was chosen as a coopted member of the executive committee of the unit.

In 2018 Obaseki was nominated for ordination as a deacon and thus became a member of the Deacons Assembly of the church. In 2021 he was ordained as a member of the Local Church Council and Chairman of the Deacons Board. As a result of holding these leadership positions, he was afterwards given several other leadership assignments in the church.

OTHER INTEREST

Reading, writing, watching of documentaries are some of his major interests. He is passionate about capacity development endeavors that add value to the lives of others. “There is joy in giving.”
